Lilla Rogers Great Talent Search - Round 1

I've just submitted my illustration for round 1 of the Global Talent Search. The deadline is looming and I had to take drastic measures to get it done: I sent off my husband and the baby off for the day, and got on with it.

The last few weeks, I've been taking photos, sketching ideas, and trying to get a working idea.

Surprisingly, I got quite upset about the state of some of the playgrounds near where I live. Some are lovely and lots of kids use them, but others are hardly used, the paint has faded, the ropes look like they're going to break at any moment... It's such a pity!

After sketching ideas for the past 3 weeks, I still wasn't sure what I wanted to draw. And with one day to go, I knew something had to change!

I finally decided to try something new today, using my acrylics and just doodling in paint.

And then, I figured out what I wanted to really illustrate! Having an idea really is the biggest buzz you can get! I was literally jumping around, well worth all the stress!

My favourite part of the playground as a kid was definitely the swings, and trying to go as high as possible to see as far as possible in the horizon.

So without further ado, here is my entry

I was so happy when I finally realised what I could illustrate!

Since I've submitted my work I looked at what some other people have entered, and there are some fantastic entries! I didn't want to see any other people's work until I'd done mine though, as I would have been completely stuck I think!

Did you enter the competition?

Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search

If you follow me on twitter or on facebook, it will be no surprise to you that I've taken the plunge and decided to take part in Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search. We've just been sent the first brief which is really fun. I won't share my work yet, but I may show you some sneak peeks later on in the month.

One thing that was mentioned at the end of the brief is that "People buy your joy". So my aim is to get lots of joy during the process :) I know I've been struggling with this due to tiredness at the moment, so I'm going to make an effort to really sleep better, maybe pushing my bedtime to a time similar to when my daughter goes to bed, and if it means I'm wide awake hours before anyone else is in the house, it might help the creative juices flowing. I used to be a morning person, so this may well be the answer to my issue here!

Since registering for her competition, I've also been looking at what people have done during her e-course Make Art That Sells. It looks like so much fun, and so creative! I wish I could financially and time wise afford it next time as it does seem to help people produce some amazing work!!

Wish me luck for the GTS!!
